One of the main reasons that people use things that they have at their home and repellants they are able to make themselves is because it gives them the satisfaction of knowing there is nothing harmful in it and it is more cost effective for them.

Before you try any of these repellents or make your own at home you need to make sure that you are not allergic to them in any way. Try making small amounts to begin with and test it on a small patch of your skin. If you do not have a reaction then it will be safe to proceed.

The most common ingredients used are basil, cedarwood, citronella, juniper, lemon, myrrh, palmarosa, pine, rose geranium and rosemary. Sometimes they are used all at once or only a few at a time. It is best to make sure that you do not have an allergic reaction before you use them.

Garlic

There are some that believe that garlic is a strong repellent against mosquitoes. Though it has not yet been proven many believe that the large amounts of allicin that it releases is harmful to the bugs and will kill them. Others think that the smell of the garlic is so strong that their senses are not able to detect the person who is wearing it.
